call of duty 4 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is one of the most highly anticipated titles of not only the year, but also this console generation.  With some of the best graphics to-date and winning awards all around this year at E3, it's no surprise that many people are claiming Call of Duty 4 to be the next big thing in shooters.  We take a look at this year's most stunning shooter and give you an idea of what to expect in singleplayer and of course multiplayer.

First of all, we'll tell you that Infinity Ward - developers of Call of Duty 4 - informed us that they actually spoke to Iraq Veterans to gain the most authentic experience possible.  And boy does it show.  This game does have a fictional plotline, but all the weapons are true-to-life and do not include any futuristic extensions or installments.  You'll be fighting with some of the most recognizable and popular modern day weapons, from assault rifles to the side-arm you carry into the war.

The good news is, although the game is focused on modern warfare, the game doesn't take place in Iraq.  However, you'll be playing against "The Four Horsemen," a crude organization of four leaders that are spread from the Middle East to Russia.  This means there will be a lot of variety in the scenery and you're tactics from level to level will change accordingly.

The Call of Duty experience, in one word, has been intense.  And Infinity Ward promises to keep it that way and not to make the game into a tactical shooter.  With Call of Duty 2 showing off their amazing talents, the team wants to prove once again that they can create something intense with the replay value promised by way of multiplayer.  The team at Infinity Ward wants to up the bar even higher this time, with more explosions, tracer fire, and all out chaos.  We say the more the better.

call of duty 4 Just like previous installments of the Call of Duty series, you'll be playing through different characters and see their storylines intersect.  What's interesting here is the story design is far more intense and even more cinematic than we've ever seen.  You'll be exploring the middle-east conflict through the eyes of a US Marine and fight the Russians as a SAS commando.  This again, gives you a lot more variety in gameplay.  We were also told that there are some other characters you'll play as, but this is kept to a limited few.

For multiplayer, they want to keep the experience tense and raw, just like singleplayer.  You now have a new feature called "Create a Class," which essentially allows you to customize everything in your loadout, from your primary weapon to your perks.  There are three different perk slots and they are all balanced so that you can not overpower your opponent to much.  It's a lot of chess warfare going on and allows you to really have a unique multiplayer experience.

One example of the "Create a Class" feature is creating a stealth unit that is quietly fast and deadly accurate.  This was demonstrated when Infinity Ward geared up their unit with a silenced submachine gun, a GPS jammer (known in the world of Rainbow Six: Vegas as well), and a light sidearm.  Not only this, but his sprint ability was also factored in, making him very fast but quiet at the same time.  This is just one of many examples that you can create with your class, so the tense firefights will be considerably different from the conventional gameplay you are used to.

call of duty 4 We have to mention the gorgeous graphics with the game.  The game runs at a butter-smooth 60 frames-per-second and the lighting, shading, shadows, environments, and character models are the best yet.  Even with the amazing effects and explosions all around, Call of Duty 4 sustained its framerate.  This is an amazing feat.  Such well-known effects as depth of field also are in the game and the long grasses slightly move in the wind and shadows cast onto player models with a realistic look.  This game is absolutely perfect in the graphics department.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is taking you out of the World War II setting and giving you all of the action from Infinity Ward's franchise.  You won't be disappointed in the final product, as Infinity Ward has been working on Call of Duty 4's multiplayer aspects since day one.  This game also has the brains and beauty to match, so the full package is here.  We just have to wait until Q4 of 2007 for its release.
