Battlefield Fans Unite If you're a Battlefield fan, you know what the series is about. It's about intense action, powerful weapons, pure chaos, and everything else that comes to mind when you hear the word "Battlefield." And not only does the popular developer DICE want to continue this vision, but they want to enhance it and throw some awesome ideas into the mix.
A New Battlefield Battlefield has always looked good with every new installment, but we here at WebQuad have a feeling that DICE has something special in store for us with Bad Company in terms of visuals. Why do we say that? Well, DICE has informed us that their in-house team located in Stockholm has created a brand new engine, called "Frostbite", which fully takes advantage of the Xbox360 and PS3 hardware. And we hope that it frost-bites the hell out of its competition and that's exactly what DICE intends for it to do. The engine will be capable of not only producing high definition textures and visuals, but creating destructible environments…after all, when you think of a Battlefield, you don't picture the environments in pristine condition, do you? Sure, environments in past Battlefield titles did look war-torn, but we're hoping that Bad Company's environments degrade during the process of the multiplayer battles.
Multiplayer Mayhem and, what's this? An awesome single player component? Yes! One of the key aspects the team is hard at work on is a convincing single player experience. From what we've gathered from DICE, the game will take place a few years into the future and the story will be focused on a group of soldiers who, instead of following the orders of their superior, decide to go AWOL and create their own orders. This element creates a very interesting twist and the overall theme adds more emphasis on making your own choices. You could say it's classic Battlefield with a major twist.
We all know that previous BF games fell short in the offline area…the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of this franchise is "multiplayer." While the multiplayer will indeed keep the same elements of the franchise and then some, the single player experience promises an entertaining storyline, plenty of tense moments, and freedom to do what you want while completing mission objectives in the order you desire. Battlefield: Modern Combat may have thrown a hot-swapping feature in the mix (and we here at WebQuad personally hated this feature), but the single player game still fell way short of the multiplayer experience. That is why DICE's goal is to finally create a respected single player component while maintaining the freeform gameplay of their signature multiplayer formula.
Since the game does take place in the near future, DICE isn't afraid of inventing some cool weaponry and hopefully we'll see some vehicle inventions as well. With this kind of setting, DICE will be able to create a convincing, gritty Battlefield and add some fresh, new ideas into the mix. The winning multiplayer formula will include squad based elements taken from the PC version of BF2. And it won't be directly ported since DICE plans on upgrading the squad-based features.
Somehow DICE has always kept us entertained with new ideas, settings, and an awesome multiplayer experience. Battlefield: Bad Company promises the same but a whole lot more. We'll have more details…for now, check out these amazing screens of the game.
