need for speed prostreet It's exciting when you see a game taking it to the next level and that is exactly what EA is hoping for with their new title, Need For Speed: Prostreet.  Focused intensely on international racing rather than an open-ended city, this time the series is taking a new look at street raciing.  Instead of racing underground, you are taken into legalized street racing to beat the best of the best in street racing.

First of all, you'll probably be wondering about the graphics in Need For Speed: Prostreet.  What we can tell you from what we personally witnessed is the game looks stunning.  Some of the most realistic smoke effects compliment the otherwise stunning graphics, such as realistic car models, which fold and bend according to any damage you take.  It's been a long-awaited feature that Need For Speed series fanatics have been begging for and it has finally arrived in Prostreet.  So you can count on some awesome crashes in the game.

"Need For Speed is taking it to the next level, or to the international stage, where you get to compete against the top street racers in the world," Michael Mann, from EA, informed.  "In order to become the street king, which is the uber motivation for the game, you need to compete and dominate what we call showdowns.  These are multi-discipline events, so you need to race drift, drag, speed challenge, [and] grip racing."

Need For Speed Prostreet Like with Need For Speed: Carbon, drift racing is back and isn't taking a backseat like it did with Most Wanted.  Instead, you'll really be challenged to explore the international stage by racing different types of events.  Drift racing has always been one of the most fun racing disciplines simply because of its freedom and ability to chain combos together.  It's exciting to also see this event featured in Prostreet, considering the variety in tracks this time around.

"You'll need to performance tune and customize your car to get the most of it for each of the game modes," says Michael.  "So one of the things we wanted to redefine this year was the physics of the car.  If you have a light RX7 you'll the difference between, you know, a blocky Cuda.  So if you push hard in the corner, you'll feel the suspension of the car buckle in on ya'."

Need For Speed Prostreet Therefore, it was apparent that EA had some surprises for fans this year.  First, we got a chance to see Michael mess around with the car and furthermore showing off the damage modeling.  It was impressive to say the least, as the speed determines how much damage you take.  Also, damage costs you two-fold, both in performance and with your wallet, so damaging your ride really makes a huge difference when racing, even making racing unbearable at times.  Taxing your car with such a robust damage model is new to the Need for Speed series and we are excited to say the least.

"To really deliver on the raw experience...we really wanted to focus on the smoke of the car," Michael told us.  "The smoke really connects you to the car and delivers on the horsepower, the violence of it."

Smoke plays a huge roll in real drift racing, as many drifters show off their ride by pulling off donuts and screeching their tires.  This is further exaggerated by the intense smoke that envelopes the car literally; you'll notice smoke wrapping around your car, swirling around the car's tires, and really effecting the way you see in this game.  It's pretty incredible looking, to say the least, and our jaws dropped when we saw the smoke in the game.  It's by far the best smoke in any game to date.

Need For Speed Prostreet Now onto the actual gameplay: You'll have the opportunity to take your rides to various locations across the globe, but you must choose the proper rides to take with you.  Since there's a limit, buying and customizing your rides is crucial here and you'll have to choose your ride carefully.  From our understanding, there'll be quite a bit of rides to choose from, ranging from the tuner scene to muscles.  It's amazing what EA is doing to really bring life back to the Need For Speed series.

You'll have the opportunity to take on the kings of the races, literally, including the Drift King, Drag King, and Speed King.  All of them are good at what they do and it'll take your awhile to get any type of race-time with them.  The actual racing feels and plays much differently, but not to the point where it'll turn off former NFS fanatics.  You can expect some of the same handling, but fine-tuned this time around.  The handling is much more realistic and you'll be expected to race like a professional.

The artificial intelligence has also returned into the pits for improvements and you'll notice individuals wrecking their cars, messing up - just like you would do.  It adds tones of personality to the game's AI and it is a key improvement, something that many games seem to lack these days.  Need For Speed: Prostreet is looking like a finely-tuned ride and we cannot wait to get our hands on the final version later this year.
