Here's my tips:
1) When making a turn, ALWAYS look in the direction your making the turn. If you're not looking where you're turning, than your ASSUMING nothing is there. I drive the same way to work every single day and, one day, a guy was standing RIGHT in the street where I turn. I always look in the direction I was turning, so I was forced to stop in the middle of the road and he immediately moved out of the road.
2) If you're turning right at a red light, always pay attention to what you're doing. Sometimes it says "No turn on red" or there is a green arrow that can cause some confusion. Always take your time on a turn on a red light.
3) SLOW DOWN when taking a turn or going around long curves. Some people think they're in a race car. lol But they're not and they get way to over-confident in their vehicle and end up spinning out, hitting something, or going over the curb.
There's my tips. Hope that helps you.

Good luck driving!
